I had an amazing time taking over the Wellness Almanac for the week of June 19th-25th.  My week was packed with exciting adventures. I had a bear encounter and my first job interview – I’m still not sure which was scarier.

Hello, I'm Arriya. This week I will be taking over The Wellness Almanac. To tell you a little bit about myself, I am 14 years old and have lived in Pemberton my whole life. I love skiing, soccer and biking. Some of my interests are dance, drawing and photography. The photo above is from my bike ride today with my Dad. I was biking up a local trail called Happy. When suddenly I noticed a bear a few meters in front of me. Its was something I had never experienced and hope never to again! Today I rode Happy, Indie then to Giv'r. #arriyasweek • • • • #pembylife #pemberdaise #biking #bears #toocloseforcomfort #bearencounter #ilovemybike #hardtailsarebetter #happytrail #ipromiseimnotposing

We had National Aboriginal day and Summer Solstice. Finished my week off camping with my family.

The first time I heard about The Wellness Almanac was when my Mom, Nic Macphee was asked to do a takeover. After my Mom did her week, I continued to follow the page. I found it so interesting that I got to learn about someone in our community over a week’s time.

When I was asked to takeover The Wellness Almanac for a week I was very excited. I felt honoured that people wanted to hear from a fourteen year old. I have never had the opportunity to share with my community in this way and to show people who I am. I felt quite mature.

Over the course of the week, I shared many photos, artwork and even a poem. It was also final exam week in school. My schedule was filled with studying, studying and more studying! Thankfully I had a few days in between to go camping.

I was hired for the position of youth coach with WORCA Youth Camps over the summer. I am so lucky that my job includes doing one of the things I love to do most…BIKING!!

Social media is a large part of my generation, I am so happy that there is a platform that includes teens to share their experiences. I am so grateful that I had this opportunity.
