Geological time is happening now. Or, so the rock geeks joke.
But it is a wonderful way to get out of one’s head and the tiny little emergencies that often crowd out the wide open space of zen-mind, to remind ourselves that we are not just living in this short fraction of a moment, but also a timeline that is long and dramatic and has involved volcanoes and floods and great seismic upheavals.
