ASIST Suicide Prevention Training offers 2 day course in Pemberton, August 16-17

Stay Wild Natural Health is partnering with the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) to bring a workshop on suicide intervention to our community, at a reduced rate for participants of $175.

ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) is a two day internationally recognized interactive workshop in suicide intervention and safety planning. This training is widely used by both professionals and the general public and builds skills and confidence in suicide intervention. Certificate and participant materials provided.

This is a 16 hour certified program offered over two days, and will be held at the Pemberton and District Community Centre:

Thursday August 16 9am-5pm
Friday August 17 9am-5pm

Over the course of their two-day workshop, ASIST participants learn to:

-Recognize people at risk of suicide
-Talk to them, hear their stories, and understand their situations
-Help keep them safe and develop and effective personal safety plan
-Connect them to community supports and resources
-Understand the ways that personal and societal attitudes affect views on suicide and interventions
-Provide guidance and suicide first aid to a person at risk in ways that meet their individual safety needs
-Identify the key elements of an effective suicide safety plan and the actions required to implement it
-Appreciate the value of improving and integrating suicide prevention resources in the community at large
-Recognize other important aspects of suicide prevention including life-promotion and self-care

This course is being offered by the CMHA (Canadian Mental Health Association) at a reduced rate of $175 per participant for our area as they recognize the need for this type of training and feel it will be immensely beneficial to our community and region. There is limited space in the class and participants should be registered by August 3 to confirm there will be enough people to run the workshop.

Participants should bring a lunch or plan to purchase nearby. Healthy snacks and refreshments will be provided by Stay Wild Natural Health.
