Meet the Northern Saw-whet Owl who has recently taken up residence in a chicken coop at mid valley. John Tschopp reports that "The hens don't seem to mind its presence." And none seem too camera-shy, either. Happily for us.

Gary Martin captures the perfect winter walk. Just add snow, and husky.
Gary and I worked together for 4 years at Origin Design - I did words, he did design. We had a running banter about what was most important. Today, he wins. No words needed.
November Birdwatch with John Tschopp (and save the date of December 15 for the Christmas Bird Count)
From our lead birding correspondent, John Tschopp: The big water in the rivers and field is a benefit to waterfowl. Ducks feed in the pools by the hundreds. When they take to the air, they are shy, the sky is full of birds. With the camera it is not easy to catch this impression. I … Continue reading November Birdwatch with John Tschopp (and save the date of December 15 for the Christmas Bird Count)
Polek Rybczynski offers a little inner forest illumination in today’s feature photo
What I love about our photo contributors and their offerings to the blog is the way they invite me to stop in my regular tracks and look more closely at the world around me. That's a big part of the reason that we've dedicated the weekend posts to photography - to offer a little stillness, … Continue reading Polek Rybczynski offers a little inner forest illumination in today’s feature photo
That time last week that Amie Le Blanc traded rain for sand dunes in Dubai
Every year, I make sure to take a much needed time out at the end of every wedding season. This time, I went to Dubai! It was a totally surreal experience and I thought it would be interesting to share a few landscape photos from the other side of the globe. I went to visit my … Continue reading That time last week that Amie Le Blanc traded rain for sand dunes in Dubai
Moose Watch with Connie Sobchak
When Mom and Dad moved to Pemberton in the early fifties, moose were plentiful and somewhat of a nuisance to farmers, apparently, as they tore through fences and were attracted to domestic cows during the rut. There were many stories of encounters with moose on winter roads wherein drivers had to wait out the moose … Continue reading Moose Watch with Connie Sobchak
A Halloween Strawberry – a guest post from Hugh Naylor
So great to welcome Hugh Naylor to this space. It’s Halloween and my friend in a Lions Villa unit hears a knock on the door. Outside it’s dark and rainy. He was on his way to bed and asks himself if he should answer. ( He has forgotten about Halloween and so unprepared for visitors). … Continue reading A Halloween Strawberry – a guest post from Hugh Naylor

Dave Steers proves that October went out with a bang
How does the wettest October on record end? With a dash through the woods, a truckload of candy, and a bang. As always, Dave Steers is there, with his lens trained on some of our community's best moments and great people. Happy November.
Hey mamas, get yourselves in front of the lens.
Do you know what I hear a lot? "I have almost no photos of myself with my children". What?! You're with them practically 24/7. You're together for every adventure, every milestone, and every family dinner. How is that possible? Mom's the one taking the photos. (Okay, sometimes it's Dad - but this post is for … Continue reading Hey mamas, get yourselves in front of the lens.
