The Grow it Forward Garden, located in the Pemberton Creek Community Garden is used as a teaching plot by Stewardship Pemberton’s Feasting for Change initiative, to engage the community in gardening, through field trips, volunteer workshops, and incorporation with the nature camp curriculum.
It also produces fresh, local vegetables for a number of social programs. The harvest goes to the Food Bank, the Healthy Pregnancy Outreach Program, the Woman’s Safe House and the Homeless Outreach Program as well as our own nature camp program participants.
This garden has produced 11500 lbs of food from its 600 sq foot garden plot in just 3 years!
It’s cared for and maintained by a head gardener.
Volunteers are invited to assist with harvesting and delivering the produce to the food bank every second Monday, from July to mid-October. These Mondays are fast becoming an enjoyable social morning in the garden, we harvest, weed and learn together.
The crew will be in the garden from 9am to 11am on Monday July 15, and Monday July 29, if you would like to join in. Let Belinda know you’re keen at firstname.lastname@example.org.
If would like to volunteer for any of our Feasting For Change programs (Pemberton Fruit Tree Project, Pemberton Seed Library, Grow-it-Forward Garden) please sign up for the volunteer newsletter here.
