5:30pm 8-11 year-olds in this summer’s Expressive Arts workshops perform their musical and theatrical works led by arts instructor Aude Ray. They’ve created the plays, the music, the costumes and the set from scratch. These are truly homegrown works of art that have emerged at The Point this summer!
6:30 pm Local songstress and singer songwriter extraordinaire Rachel Thom takes to the keys to play original tunes and selected covers as an aperitif to Friday night’s dinner at 7pm.
8:00 pm Vancouver shadow theatre puppet artists Mind of a Snail bend you into extravagant cutlery and hair grooming shapes in their new show, Inside Outlet. Not to be missed!
9:30 pm Lil’Wat roots reggae band and North American Aboriginal music award winners, Kalan Wi, play a beautiful blend of west coast reggae that is both died-in-the-wool Lil’Wat local and cutting edge world music. Time to dance!
Saturday, August 17
Noon – 6pm Saturday at The Point happens every Saturday afternoon during the summer, but today we’ve got Michael Faiella singing, strumming and percussing through a huge variety of tunes, face painting for the young and young at heart, capoeira demonstrations, and a lantern-making workshop with Mollie-Anne Reynolds for the evening’s lantern boat procession.
7 pm Dinner gets underway as Vancouver recording artists Bocephus King play an acoustic set to warm up the evening’s festivities.
8 pm The Point’s own Script-Tease Improv troupe takes to the floating stage with their wildly original and entertaining Alta Lake improv antics!
Featuring Aude Ray, Kev Mikkelsen, Angie Nolan, Fish Boulton, LaTiana Culbreath, Ritchie Leaver, Michel Beaudry and Susan Hutchinson
9 pm The premiere of Stephen Vogler’s new play, The Auditor (or Sex, Drugs and Tax Returns) hits the floating stage! Ottawa auditor meets free-wheeling Gulf Island writer in a tale of island mystique, clashing cultures and transformation.
10:00 pm Bocephus King takes festival goers into the lodge on a celebratory Saturday night musical journey bound to get you movin’ and shakin’!
11:00 pm The festival wraps up with a procession of lantern-carrying boats silently winding their way across Alta Lake to The Point.
