Local birder John Tschopp keeps a close eye on the winged things of Pemberton, sharing his sightings with other keen ornithologists.
He was able to confirm for us that “Grumpy” (as shared on Feb 23 here at the Almanac) is a Great Horned Owl. And shares another sighting with us, of the sharp-shinned hawk. We look forward to sharing more of his expertise with you here.
Mid February, we had a guest over for dinner in our yard. It was a Sharp-shinned Hawk who found the small birds around the feeder attractive. The hawk stayed around for most of an afternoon, giving me plenty of time to take a picture.

Awesome! He is such a wealth of feathered knowledge!
