Shout Out: PVTA

Exciting to read in the Question this week that the Pemberton Valley Trails Association is moving full-steam ahead with its dream of building a hiking trail up Mount Currie.

The province has granted the necessary approvals, and the PVTA hopes to get started on the first 2km of trail before the snow flies, with the hope of completing it summer 2013.

“The route’s been flagged and approved and everything, so it’s mostly just a matter of us cutting it in.” Chris Allen, PVTA director

The trail would be a steep 8km climb for intermediate to advanced hikers to daytrip up Mt Currie. Half the estimated $60,000 budget has been raised, thanks to contributions from the Pemberton Valley Utilities and Services Committee (VoP and SLRD), and Mountain Equipment Co-op.

Volunteers are welcome to help pitch in on the trail-building and bring the dream to fruition.
