I was curious when I drafted this question to see if people felt that we were making more/better or different progress at a local community level, than at a national level… and that seemed to be the feeling, which I attribute to the opportunity we have here to have more close relationships or genuine interactions with each other. Instead of trying to find a path that works nation to Nations, we have the opportunity here to work neighbour to neighbour. Truth and reconciliation is not an abstract topic, or one we can pretend away. It impacts us, in our daily lives and interactions. Our kids are in school together. We sit in the waiting room at the clinic together. Our futures are intertwined and our wellness is interdependent. It might be easy to ignore that in Ottawa. But it’s our privilege and opportunity to live that here.
