
Ecological insecurity/climate concerns, and Economic insecurity, were equally ranked as the most pressing concern challenging people’s resilience. (37% of respondents ranked each of these as concerns.)
Next came challenges at work, and mental health challenges faced by someone I love. (28.8% of respondents ranked each of these as concerns.)
Local emergencies/floods, living away from family, my own mental health, and general existential angst (all the scary things happening in the world) each impacted more than a quarter of respondents.
Aging, illness, isolation, losses of loved ones, racism, intergenerational trauma, family stress and financial insecurity were also factors for at least 20% of respondents.)
Other things that people are working through in their lives included:
- unhelpful use of drugs or alcohol,
- relationship breakdown,
- deaths in the community,
- parenthood = be that new arrivals, or young adults, or somewhere in between
- struggling with personal capacity to meet all the needs
- how busy Pemberton is and the current infrastructure is failing
- changes in community make-up
- “cost of groceries literally terrifies me daily”
- cost of living vs wages
