It was a delight to see my Facebook feed full of photos from Lil’wat Nation members and N’Quatqua Nation members out hiking Pipi7iyekw over the past month – many accessing the beautiful land or making the hike for the first time in their lives – in spite of the area’s long significance for people for harvesting and ceremony.
While the Nations negotiated with provincial ministries of Environment and Climate Change Strategy and Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation, and shortened the month-long closure, the closure for today, to acknowledge Truth and Reconciliation Day remains in place.
May the land know healing, and bring healing.
