What about China? Whistler Institute Speaker Series zeroes in tonight, 6pm

The Whistler Institute has announced the first 2 events in their 4 part 2023/2024 Global Perspectives Speaker Series.

The Speaker Series will kick off tonight at Whistler’s Maury Young Arts Centre with featured speaker Paul Evans, on “Canada, The Asian Century, and What Comes Next.”

What does China’s rise as a global power mean?

The implications are profound – economically, diplomatically, and morally. Is the competition between the US and China veering towards a new kind of Cold War? How is Canada being impacted by advanced technology, political values, and military primacy?  Paul Evans will lead the discussion on how Canada can navigate these turbulent waters.

Paul Evans is Professor Emeritus in the School of Public Policy and Global Affairs at UBC. He has been a principal figure in Canada-Asia relations for 40 years with a focus on China and its Asian neighborhood. He has worked with think tanks, government ministries, and universities across the Asia Pacific region and served as Co-CEO of the Asia Pacific Foundation.
