Shout out to PORCA for their focus on the kids

My kiddo just started an after school bike clinic through September with PORCA. And while he’d rather be chilling at home playing Roblox, I was so beyond stoked for him to have this opportunity, and blown away to see the 4 amazing coaches who showed up outside school in their jerseys, ready to take the kids out for an after school pedal and skill development session.

Shout out to Joel, the Youth Program Coordinator, all the coaches, the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation for fresh jerseys and to Pemberton Valley Supermarket for providing snacks for the coaches and campers. And to PORCA’s Board and incredible Exeuctive Director Bree Thorlakson whose vision was never just about going for a bike ride, but about how we can use bikes, (and write an inordinate number of grant applications to secure the funding and support,) to build an incredible community.

And I am even more stoked that PORCA has worked to make sure these opportunities are available to all kids, partnering with Specialized and the Free Radicals and the Lílwat Nation and the Lílwat Nation Recreation Department to host Introduction to Mountain Biking sessions at Mount Currie, with a donated fleet of brand new bikes.

Kelly Cosgrove captured some of the action of the 7 – 13 year old youth learning the basics of getting out there on mountain bikes.

“Laughs were hard, smiles were seen and skills were built. This is just the start 🙌
The session wouldn’t be complete without even some horses joining in on the fun.
These sessions wouldn’t be possible without the support of the community. A special mention to Specialized Bicycles and the.free.radicals who donated 10 Specialized P. Series Bikes to the Lílwat Nation Recreation Department. With these bikes, we’re excited to provide even more opportunities for youth to experience the benefits of mountain biking. We can’t wait to see them ripping the skills park.”

For Lil’wat families who missed out this session, reach out to programs@porcacbikes.com to be placed on a waitlist for upcoming sessions.
