The Child Youth Mental Health Substance Use (CYMHSU) Collaborative is funded by Doctors of BC (formerly the BC Medical Association) and BC Government to improve timely access to supports and services for children and youth with mental health and/or substance use challenges.
Local action teams are being put in place around the province, and one was just started here in Pemberton last fall. A new Project Coordinator, Nancy Lee, joined the team in April.
The team includes representation from all the local schools, Lil’wat First Nation, local Doctors, Ministries of Health and Ministry of Family and Child Development, counsellors, social workers — basically anybody who supports children and youth.
They are actively looking for youth 18-25 and parents with experiences dealing with mental health and/or substance use to be equal members of the team, to share their experiences and help identify gaps and improve services.
