Rethink the s’mores: Campfire Ban in Effect through the Weekend

As of noon on Aug. 1, 2014, campfires are prohibited in the Coastal Fire Centre.

It’s hot, dry and there’s no rain in sight. And there was that little issue of a long weekend.

The prohibition remains in effect this weekend, in order to reduce human-caused fires, and keep crews available to respond to naturally occurring wildfires.

That means:
• no campfires
• no open fires in an outdoor stove
• no small backyard burning fires (the burning of any material in piles larger than a half-metre high by a half-metre wide, up to two metres high by three metres wide)
• no tiki torches, fireworks or sky lanterns,
• no burning off stubble or grass up to 0.2 hectares in size
• no burning barrels of any size and description

You may still use CSA-rated or ULC-rated cooking stoves that use gas, propane
or briquettes, or portable campfire stoves that use briquettes, liquid or gaseous fuel,
so long as the height of the flame is less than 15 centimetres.

It does somewhat limit the s’more-making ability, though, so here’s a recipe you could try instead.
