Shout-Out: Humanitarians Tashayna Peters and Attila Nelson

Featured in this week’s Question are local youth, Tashayna Peters from D’arcy and Attila Nelson from Mt Currie, who have just returned from a four-month stint in Africa after being selected as two of 10 participants in this year’s International Aboriginal Internship Program administered by the Victoria International Development Education Association (VIDEA).

Now home, they are about to start the VIDEA’s Global Solidarity Challenge. They’ll be living on just $1.25 per day for a full week in a show of support to the 1.3 billion people worldwide who must survive on that amount of money or less.

Peters told the Question that she also intends to send books back overseas to one of the schools she visitied while in Zambia.

Peters and Nelson are seeking donations as they take on the challenge. Anyone interested in supporting them can donate online at their personal pages on http://solidarity.videa.ca/:

Congratulations Tashayna and Attila! Sounds like an amazing learning experience. Often times it takes a journey like this to appreciate how lucky we are to live in a place of relative prosperity, safety, and beauty. I did a program like this when I was 18 and it changed my life forever.
