Planning has been underway for the Nkwukwma Pemberton neighbourhood for some time.
Lil’wat member and new staff member at Tom Barratt Landscape Architects, Amhani Jones, is creating a Cultural Interpretive Plan for the development.
She explains, “This new neighbourhood (and Pemberton as a whole) holds a lot of Lil’wat cultural value with legends, pictographs, CMT’s, traditional land use (hunting, fishing, gathering), and off-site depressions. Historically speaking Lil’wat7ul moved a lot through Pemberton and there’s no representation of this part of the Lil’wat Nation and it’s somewhat forgotten history.”
Amhani is keen to connect with members of the Lil’wat community, to gain insight into what you would love to see shared and integrated in this Lil’wat-owned-and-led neighbourhood development. Her personal hope is for all communities that are on the unceded traditional territory of the Lil’wat Nation have the opportunity to be aware, well-informed and able to share in a respectful manner.
You are invited to reach out to Amhani, to share your thoughts and ideas and opinions, in one-on-one conversations. Email hani@tblla.com to start a conversation.
