Free Canning Workshop, Saturday June 21, 9am-1pm

Just in time for strawberry season, Stewardship Pemberton is hosting a canning workshop that will teach you everything you need to know to can jams and preserves without giving your loved ones a nasty case of botulism. (I’m guessing all cases of botulism are nasty…)

jam SPS’s Dawn Johnson shared a favourite family recipe and the 5 reasons she cans on The Wellness Almanac a few years ago, but for those who learn better from a hands-on situation, this is the perfect opportunity.

And it’s being offered for FREE!

Water Bath Canning

It’s part of SPS’s amazing Fruit Tree Project – which aims to improve bear-human relationships by teaching more humans how to preserve crabapples, thereby making said humans sweet and happy, while simultaneously removing the temptation for the bears, without requiring any trees to be cut down. At least, that’s the idea. The more people who know how to take advantage of the bounty of the season, the better!

Always wanted to learn how to safely preserve the bounty of the season but not sure how? Please join us as we guide you through the basics of home canning and make delicious, local strawberry rhubarb jam (you get to take a jar home with you!). (MIN 6 MAX 8). No experience necessary.
