As Aaraksh Siwakoti wrote so cleverly in the Question this week:
Don’t be afraid of the dark, at least for one hour tonight.
The seventh year of the worldwide event Earth Hour sees businesses and individuals turn off non-essential lights between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. to raise awareness of environmental issues, including climate change and energy consumption.
The campaign originated with the World Wildlife Fund, who kindly put together a list of 10 things to do with the lights off to help you make the most of powering down – starting with inviting friends for a candlelit dinner, or eating all the ice-cream in your freezer.
We’d also vote for a bike-ride by headlamp, torchlit walk, bonfire, or stargazing session.
