Lil’wat Councillor and Fisheries Manager, Maxine Joseph-Bruce spends a lot of time on the river, but last week, she spent time in the river.
She’ll share her updates of the salmon count and other stewardship and fisheries work the Lil’wat Nation is doing with us throughout the summer and fall.
Here’s the first.
Ama sqit Nsneknukwa7 – I had adrenaline filled couple days on the Qwalimakatkwa (translation – Birkenhead River)! Learned some excellent skills. Definitely pushed my personal boundaries. A BIG kukwstum’ckacw to those that shared the experience, including the salmon that were nearby holding in a pool. Kukwstum to the eagle and crows that sat nearby overseeing our training process. At each day’s end, I had the biggest smile on my face and wonderful feeling of accomplishment. I have a total renewed respect for the strength and power of our river. Our rivers are beautiful! Kela AMA ku zayten. kukwstum’kalap Nilh ti.
