On March 8, for International Women’s Day, the Community Foundation of Whistler hosted the Kathy Barnett Leadership Lunch, and announced four recipients for their annual grant, one of which was Winds of Change Steering Committee members and Wellness Almanac contributor, Tanya Richman. Congrats T!

Below, Tanya offers a shout-out to the Foundation and the local groups she works with.
I was recently privileged to receive a Kathy Barnett Memorial Leadership Grant from The Community Foundation of Whistler. This grant is designed to help women from the Sea to Sky corridor further their education and training in order to support their work with local community organizations. I am honoured to work with such great groups such as the Winds of Change Steering Committee, Pemberton Youth Soccer, the parents association for L’École de la Vallée de Pemberton, and the Pemberton Junior World Changers.
In order for groups to gain momentum they need to be organized effectively and funded adequately. I found that I was lacking knowledge on fundraising and grant writing that would help me contribute more effectively to the groups I work with. I applied for the KBML grant in order to complete a certificate in non-profit management at BCIT. I am excited about learning how to further help the groups I work with and honoured that the Community Foundation of Whistler felt that this work is also important.
I am very grateful to Sea to Sky Community Services for partnering with me and facilitating my grant application.
Now, just to find the time to squeeze those courses in!
