Iron Man Canada is coming to Whistler this summer, August 25, and they want you, to join the Pemberton Volunteer Crew.
The bike leg will take place partly in Pemberton (from a lakeside transition, south down the Sea-to-Sky Highway, into the Callaghan Valley before returning back down the Highway and through past Whistler to Pemberton.)
Call me crazy, but I think the Pemberton stretch will be the highlight of their entire race experience.
An out-and-back section allows athletes breathtakingly beautiful views of glaciated peaks, while racing on a completely flat section of road.
Although, self-confessed “tri-nerd”, Christine Cogger, reckons there will be plenty of heartbreak in it for the athletes, even so.
the ride back to Whistler at the end of 180K is not to be underestimated, nor is the long out and back in the Pemberton Meadows…
They’re holding an Information Session for Volunteers at the Pemberton Community Centre this week.

Something to keep in mind for keen volunteers, esp single ones, and those who appreciate Iron Man physiques – they’re going to need “wetsuit removers”, but that’s a gender-specific gig. Girls on girls. Guys on guys. No such gender limitations apply, fyi for the “human sunscreen appliers.”
