Each year Rotary International sets a new theme for all the clubs around the world to follow. This years’ theme is “Peace through Service.” The Village of Pemberton has kindly bestowed upon the Rotary Club of Pemberton the designation of Rotary Peace Community, one of only four in Canada.

The Objects of a “Rotary Peace Community” are:

RESPECT for life and dignity of every person, without discrimination or prejudice;
REJECTION of violence, in all its forms and towards all people;
RESOLUTION of conflicts among people within local and global communities;
RECONCILLIATION of differences and the pursuit of harmony; and
FREEDOM of expression and cultural diversity.

The Pemberton Rotary Club invites everyone to join them in celebrating the signing of the Public Declaration of Peace on Saturday September 22nd at the Cottonwood Community Centre. This family fun event with free refreshments, crafts and music will take place from 11-1pm, with the signing taking place at 11:30am

Peace begins at home and in each community. It transcends the simplistic view of an absence of war and encompasses all those measures that improve human relations with positive and harmonious outcomes. Violence and conflict are pervasive global phenomena that are seriously affecting the well being of families and communities. The rejection of violence, the respect for life and human dignity, the resolution of personal and urban violence and the reconciliation of differences can realize those freedoms under which peace and harmony can flourish.
