On Sunday, (Sept 23), Winds of Change Steering Committee Chair Sheldon Tetreault and his family, wife Harriet and kids Riel and Isaac, took a hike with Chief Lucinda Phillips and her husband Bernie, to an area along Owl Lake, north of the Pemberton Valley.
(You can see the location of the lake on this map that local artist Lynn Pocklington did for the Slow Food Cycle.)
Lil’wat successfully negotiated for a 100 hectare “cultural education area” tenure at the site a few years ago during land-use negotiations.
This site is envisioned for use as a Cultural Camp – an outdoor camp where Lil’wat youth can learn about cultural practices, environmental stewardship, and self-awareness.
Said Tetreault after his excursion to the area, “I can see why this area was chosen. It is close-by yet remote, peaceful, and incredibly beautiful. Winds of Change is supporting the Lil’wat dream and actively seeking partnerships to make it a reality.”
