Shout Out: Junior World Changers at the Pemberton Library

The Pemberton Public Library hosted a group at the beginning of the summer that drew 5 young people to come and explore ideas on how they could influence their community, and change the world. Arriya and Hayden, Olive, Kate and Emma worked really hard and were very inspiring to the adults around them.

Inspired by Dave Meslin and his talk on community engagement, these 5 young people explored topics that matter to them. They then made posters aimed at convincing others that these topics should also matter to them. You can check them out – they’re on display at the library! The group even made their own paper for their posters.

They also looked into what was for sale in the vending machines at the Community Centre. They discovered that most of the products for sale are made by companies with very dubious human rights and environmental records. Some of the companies even engage in slave labour and child labour practices!

This group was so enthusiastic that it looks as though it will continue to meet in the fall. Way to go kids!
