Recipe of the Week: Cherry and Almond Muffins
I prevailed on friends (and Icecap Organics harvest box customers) Gary and Zoé Martin, to share their kitchen secrets, after listening to the mouth-watering adventures they got up to last season. The first harvest boxes were delivered last week, with a supply of fresh cherries. Which were transformed shortly thereafter, in the Martin kitchen, into … Continue reading Recipe of the Week: Cherry and Almond Muffins
Sighted: Red Headed Pileated Woodpecker
Spotted while mountain-biking down JimJam last week - a red-headed pileated woodpecker (Dryocopus pileatus.) Largest of its kind in North America, and one of 6 woodpecker species likely to be seen around Pemberton/Mt Currie, the pileated woodpecker was doing what woodpeckers do best. Pecking wood. Scouting for a nice ant colony to tap. A great … Continue reading Sighted: Red Headed Pileated Woodpecker

Coaches Corner: You have everything you need, in nature.
Winter and summer shoe couture, Lil'wat style. Snowshoes made from bent wood and twisted rawhide, and moccasins sewn from salmon skin with hide lacings, make me think the dictionary is missing a few words. Like "indigenuity" - what you get when indigenous meets ingenuity. (Thanks for finding and posting the photo, Johnny Jones.)
Coaches Corner: It Gets Better
Three years ago, Vancouver Park Board Commissioner Constance Barnes drove her car into a house. It was a very public melt-down. After her DUI, she made extreme changes to her lifestyle. Last week, she celebrated 3 years of sobriety, AND, 3 years as a cyclist. She got a bike for the first time after her … Continue reading Coaches Corner: It Gets Better
